Chaplaincy For All Ministries

The Chaplaincy for All Ministries focus group will equip students for ministry across a broad range of ministry contexts, by building on foundational pastoral care skills and knowledge and integrating clinical aspects of pastoral care and counseling. This focus group encourages students to complete at least four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE). Upon completion of CPE units, graduates will be eligible for the National Board Certification as a Board-Certified Chaplain (BCC) through the Association for Professional Chaplains (APC). It is also possible for graduates of this program to use their content knowledge, skill-sets, and aptitude to advance into the Certified Education Candidate (CEC) training program of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc., (ACPE) to become Certified Educators.

Chaplaincy for All Ministries incorporates key elements of CPE, helping students form a practical understanding of clinical ministry. It also includes opportunities for ministry reflections, and a learner may choose to address either learning problem(s) or issue(s) related to his or her own immediate ministry context and/or to begin exploration of the required three theory papers in CEC training in preparation to become a Certified Educator through the ACPE Certification process. This focus group is designed to increase research literacy among pastors/chaplains and to prepare them to be collaborators with colleagues in other professions. This further fosters a spiritual and intellectual synthesis while strengthening prophetic and pastoral competence demonstrated in a DMin project.
