Certificate in Service and Leadership
United Theological Seminary’s Certificate in Service and Leadership (CSL) equips students for serving in a variety of ministries in a church.
The CSL is designed for:
- Laity seeking a basic theological foundation for ministry as a deacon or church servant leader
- Those beginning their theological education journey
- Those with or without a bachelor’s or master’s degree or previous college credit
The CSL consists of 8 online courses offered over a two-year period. The fully online format fits your busy schedule and allows you to complete your coursework from wherever you live. The CSL is available to domestic and international students.
As an added benefit of the program, students can receive college credit that can be applied towards an online associate or bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Administration or Organizational Leadership through a partnership with Dakota Wesleyan University (DWU).
Curriculum
Students will receive a Certificate in Service and Leadership after the 8 courses have been completed. Each online course is equivalent to 3.6 CEUs per course.

How to Apply and Register for Courses
CSL Program Application is completed online through our MyUnited Applicant Portal.
New Students: If you are a new student to United’s CSL program you must first apply via the CSL Application. After applying and being confirmed you will receive a United email account and credentials to our student portal and instructions on how to proceed with registration. CSL Class Registration is completed through the MyUnited Student Portal.
Returning Students: If you are a returning student then you have already applied to the program and your student information is already in our system. If you have not already received your United email account and student portal credentials, contact the CTM Coordinator at [email protected] and request them to be sent to you.
