From Song to Sermon: Preaching Renewal through Black Sacred Music

This focus group explores the transformative power of Black Sacred Music—spirituals, gospel, hymns, and contemporary expressions—as a source of renewal for both preacher and congregation. Rooted in biblical themes of lament, hope, and liberation, the focus group examines how sacred music can inform and inspire preaching that speaks to the heart of the church and community. Students will engage theological reflection, historical analysis, and homiletical practice to discern how music and preaching together foster resilience, renewal, and faithful discipleship in the 21st century.
