After working for the Air Force for 43 years (retired in 2019) and working in various ministries at my church (Min. of Music, Director of Christian Education, etc.), I believed there was more God wanted me to do in His service. Well, at 65 years old, I started at United with the intention of only taking one class. Now at 69 years old, I am elated to graduate with a Master of Ministry degree! I feel purpose-driven and excited to see what God has in store for this "old girl."
How has United prepared you to go out and minister to the world?
United has been integral in equipping me for ministry! The professors and staff are AWESOME -- they WANT students to be successful! I started out only pursuing another academic degree. I wanted only information, not revelation. However, after my first class, I realized that God was not only calling me to ministry, but He had been calling me to ministry most of my life! It took attending United and talking with my professors, staff, leadership, and other students for me to recognize God's calling on my life.
What would you say to someone considering seminary at United?
I would tell them to attend at least one class that interests them, that calls to their heart. Unless your calling is clear to you, do not worry about declaring a specific ministry in the beginning of your journey. God will reveal it to you, according to God’s timing.
