THE O’BRIEN LIBRARY

The O’Brien Library, named in honor of long-time librarians Elmer J. and Betty A. O’Brien, is located on the United Theological Seminary campus. The library features over 45,000 volumes of print resources in the reference collections, rare books collection, denominational collections, and archive collections. These resources are intended for on-site use only. The O’Brien Library’s print collections will remain searchable through the general WorldCat online catalog but the library’s WorldCat Discovery catalog will no longer be available after July 1, 2023.

In 2020, the O’Brien Library joined the Digital Theological Library (DTL) to provide United students and faculty with expanded access to digital resources. While DTL use is limited to current students and faculty, the DTL Seminary Bookshelf (DTLSB) is available to anyone for a modest monthly fee and United alumni/ae are eligible for an institutional discount (see this link for DTLSB membership information.) Also, the Open Access DTL (OADTL) catalog is available for everyone, providing free access to over 120,000 eBooks and other online resources (for more information, click here.)
