United Will Have a Permanent Chapel!
Ten years ago United Theological Seminary moved to its new campus at 4501 Denlinger Road, Dayton, OH. For these past ten years, students, faculty and staff have worshipped twice a week in Thie Fellowship Hall, a multi-purpose room provided by Ron and Jean Thie.
At the time United moved to its new campus, Richard Zimmerman was Chair of the United Board of Trustees. The former Chair and Chief Executive Officer of The Hershey Company in Hershey, PA, Mr. Zimmerman and his wife Nancy have been most generous in supporting United with their time, talent and treasure.
When Mr. Zimmerman passed away June 29, 2014, he left a generous bequest of $500,000 to provide a permanent chapel for United Theological Seminary.
Plans are now underway to remodel the former United Bookstore and part of Thie Fellowship Hall into the Zimmerman Chapel, which will provide a permanent worship space for United’s twice weekly chapel services, spiritual formation groups, preaching classes, funerals and weddings. The new chapel will seat 125 people and will be able to open into Thie Fellowship Hall to hold well over 200. Our goal is to complete construction of the new chapel in fall 2016.
Second Mile Campaign Update
In January we announced a Second Mile campaign to raise $1.2 million by June 30, 2016, to ensure that we end this fiscal year in the black. Over $864,000 has been donated or committed to date from our faithful and generous donors. If you would like to make a contribution, go to give.united.edu.
Paul wrote to the Christians in Corinth: “I give thanks to my God always for you.” I give thanks to my God always for the faithfulness, generosity and compassion of the United community.
Grace and peace,
Dr. Kent Millard
