Master of Divinity in Spanish

3 years, 72 credit hours

Most courses are offered fully online. Contextual Ministry courses include a three-day face-to-face retreat during the Fall term of the first and second years.

United’s MDiv meets the requirements for ordination in most major Protestant denominations, though many graduates serve as lay professionals in a variety of fields, including chaplaincy, nonprofit leadership, teaching and social work.

Rev. Dr. Jorge Ochoa

Rev. Dr. Jorge Ochoa is currently the Director of the Hispanic/Latino Movement and Church Development of the Northwest Texas Conference and Chair of the Evangelism Team. He holds a Doctorate in International Relations and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity by United Theological Seminary for his evangelistic work and his dedication to raising the educational level of the Hispanic/Latino community. He has also received the Harry Denman Evangelism Award from The Foundation for Evangelism. His vision and radical evangelistic strategy have achieved a growth of 400% in the Hispanic/Latino community of the NWTX Conference. He has demonstrated exceptional leadership through innovative means to reach the Hispanic/Latino community, outstanding work in church growth, and commitment to forming bridges with beyond the Hispanic community.

Rev. Dr. Ochoa has been an essential partner with United Theological Seminary over the years, offering leadership and support with the Hispanic Christian Academy, the School of Evangelistic Leaders, and Rooted: Church-planting Coaches and Mentors certificate program. Other titles and positions he holds include: Facilitator of Incubators aimed at Hispanic/Latino pastors and leaders as well as multicultural groups, Coach and Mentor of pastors of various conferences, Promotor of the Language School offered to pastors of the NWTX and NM Conferences, and Lecturer for Leaders, Cell Groups, and Discipleship. Dr. Ochoa has promoted the use of media as a fundamental instrument for pastors, especially in evangelization, investing in technology and professional resources, taking the message outside the limits of his conference to be instruments of blessing.

Born in Bogota, Colombia, mother of two sons, for 8 years worked in Christian chaplaincy and evangelization in Spanish. She has dedicated herself to providing services to the immigrant community, refugees, and disadvantaged people in Dayton, Ohio.

She is the president and founder of a non-profit organization which provides counseling for those suffering from addictions and domestic violence. She leads the Spanish ministry at Mosaic Church in Beavercreek.

As the Administrative Assistant of the Hispanic House of Study, she will support students and professors on this successful path of education!

Rev. Ileana Flores resides in Los Angeles California. She was born and Costa Rica and has been been married for more than 32 years, she has two grown children Jessica and Gerardo Jr.

Her passion is teaching and being able to see pastors fulfill their calling to their full potential. Rev. Flores believes firmly in the theological preparation in the church; a church, a leadership, a minister, a pastor without preparation is at drift.

Rev. Flores is an Ordained Minister of the Wesleyan Church, working hand by hand with pastors, leaders, ministerial students, for more than 15 years in Distrito Hispano de la Iglesia Wesleyana. She is a Fellowship of Leaders Acquiring Ministerial Education professor (FLAMA by its acronym in Spanish) for the Wesleyan Church.

In the Hispanic District, she not only worked as an Administrator but also had the privilege to work preparing future ordained ministers, future church planters, assistant pastors, and help in clergy care.

Rev. Flores has an MDiv from Wesley Seminary and is currently pursuing her Doctor of Ministry at Asbury Theological Seminary with an emphasis in Preaching and Leadership.

La Dra. Rachel Coleman lleva más de 30 años como educadora y misionera, sirviendo a la iglesia latinoamericana y la población hispanoparlante en EE.UU. En adición a su trabajo para United, también da clases para Asbury Theological Seminary e Indiana Wesleyan University, y sirve como consultora para la educación teológica (Latinoamérica) para la One Mission Society. Sus intereses académicos especiales son los Evangelios, Lucas-Hechos, Apocalipsis, los escritos proféticos y el estudio bíblico inductivo.

La Dra. Coleman está casada con el Rev. Dr. Randy Coleman. Viven en Elida, OH, donde él pastorea una congregación metodista. Los Coleman tienen dos hijos adultos, ambos casados y viviendo en Lexington, KY, y dos adorables nietos.

Rev. Dr. Eliseo A. Mejia is a pastor, professor, and a church-planting leader. He guides a wide variety of architects and students in different cultural settings and countries.  This context allows him to access God’s grace which offers us gifts, God-sized goals, strengths, skills, and the current reality of students, leaders, and planters of churches and organizations.

As a teacher, pastor, and Director of Divine Expressions−Fresh Expressions he carries a wide range of responsibilities and interests. At the national level, he trains leaders to start new faith communities where people live, work, and have fun.

In addition, he offers his experience with deep dedication to each student, and to leaders transforming the world with the message of Jesus in dependence on the power of the Holy Spirit. Teaching is his passion, and he does so with a deep love for God, a thirst for knowledge and growth, and a heart full of love to serve others to achieve their goals and celebrate success in their lives and ministries.

With God’s help and an exceptional team of pastors it has been possible to plant more than 25 churches in Kentucky, and in Dallas, Texas. Likewise, Dr. Mejia has participated in training new and experienced s-as leaders in the last 33 years in the USA and internationally.

He is ordained a Priest at the Kentucky Annual Conference, where he serves as senior pastor of Paris First UMC. He pastored Mosaic UMC for eight years. A multicultural and multi-ethnic merged congregation in Louisville, KY. He is bilingual and is fascinated by both the English language as well as Spanish.

Academically he holds two master’s degrees, one from Central American Theological Seminary (1980), and from Dallas Theological Seminary (1986). He completed his Doctor of Ministry at Asbury Seminary on May 20, 2017.

Mi nombre es Jorge Jorge Riano, nacido en Cuba en 1969 donde inicialmente me gradué de médico y poco después respondí al llamado del Señor al pastorado en la Iglesia Metodista en Cuba donde cursé mis estudios de bachiller y maestría.

Desde 2014 emigré a USA junto a mi esposa Giselle Galban Carreras, dedicada a la videografía, y nuestros hijos David Jorge y Anabelle Jorge de 27 y 24 años respectivamente. Todos vivimos actualmente en Lubbock Texas y trabajamos como pastores de la Iglesia Metodista Hispana “Vida Abundante Lubbock”, una joven congregación que ha renacido con nuevas fuerzas después de la pandemia.
Desde Cuba nos dedicamos a la labor pastoral y plantación de iglesias, siendo la consejería pastoral un arma poderosa en nuestro arsenal ministerial conjuntamente con el trabajo en el internet y las redes sociales. En nuestro nuevo campo ministerial en Texas hemos encontrado en la consejería familiar una herramienta de valor incalculable para acompañar en el proceso de inmigración a las innumerables familias hispanas que siguen llegando al sur de Texas.

Esperamos poder sumar un poco de recursos y habilidades al cuerpo pastoral hispano tanto en USA como en Latinoamérica para que Dios siga encontrando en el pueblo hispano latino una fuente inagotable de líderes y pastores Cristianos con los que pueda contar para la transformación de las comunidades a las que nos envíe.
