Alumni/ae Spotlight: Jonathan McReynolds
Why did you choose United?
I chose to attend the United Theological Seminary because of its dynamic standards of theological education and spirit of excellence in overall ministry training. When I considered other seminary options, they could not compare to what United offered. The curriculum and educational format of United also is a good fit for those who are currently serving as Senior Pastors.
What’s been one of your favorite experiences, events or projects you’ve done at United?
The lectures that have been offered at United have been one of my favorite experiences at our seminary. The faculty and administration have worked hard to offer a diverse group of lecturers and topics within both the master and doctoral level of studies.
Another great experience has been the opportunity to do academic writing. The pedagogy and standards of the faculty has broadened my paradigm of ministry and theology through the writing experience. The level of academic writing and research at United has truly been a transformative experience for me as a student.
Tell us a little about what you’re doing outside of United that’s been influenced by your studies at United.
My experience at United has inspired me to pursue avenues in facilitating ministry workshops and opportunities in theological writing once I have completed my doctoral studies. United has helped me to gain a greater appreciation for ministry formation and pastoral care. Thus, I have placed a greater emphasis on these areas in my current context.
What is one of the most important things you’ve learned from being a student at United?
Being a student at United has taught me to appreciate and to be more sensitive to the diversity within the body of Christ as well as to seek a greater understanding of the paradigms of those within the pew, who I am called to minister to on a daily basis.
