DAYTON, Ohio, August 24, 2018 — Dr. Kent Millard, President of United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio, announced today that Dr. Bridget Weatherspoon has been named Vice President for Enrollment. She follows Dr. Harold Hudson, who has served in leadership at United for the past 14 years, most recently as both Vice President for Enrollment and Associate Dean for Doctoral Studies. Dr. Hudson will continue in his role as Associate Dean for Doctoral Studies, recruiting and leading the 160 students and 50 faculty and mentors engaged in the Doctor of Ministry program for the Fall 2018 semester.
Dr. Weatherspoon will be the first African-American woman to serve as a vice president at United Theological Seminary. She received both her Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees at United, and has worked at the Seminary for the past nine years. She currently serves as Senior Director of Student Recruitment and Advocate Marketing. Dr. Weatherspoon’s expert leadership in the Seminary’s recruiting efforts was fundamental in the 77% increase in new students the Seminary experienced in September 2017.
“When I think of the new students who are called to become leaders of the Church, I am reminded of the promise of Jeremiah 29:11: ‘For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord,’” Dr. Weatherspoon said. “I believe God honors our faithfulness when we follow Him one step at a time. I see God carrying our students through this ministry of education and making room for their gifts.”
“We thank God for Dr. Harold Hudson’s faithful service as Vice President for Enrollment as he hands off this responsibility to his Senior Director for Student Recruitment and Advocate Marketing, Dr. Bridget Weatherspoon,” President Millard said. “Dr. Weatherspoon has been an enthusiastic recruiter for United for the past seven years, and many students credit her with being the first person they met from United. Dr. Weatherspoon’s energy and passion for what God is doing through United is contagious and encourages potential students to want to receive their theological education at this seminary. Not only is Dr. Weatherspoon a superb recruiter, but she is also an inspiring preacher, and students and faculty alike feel the living presence of God when Dr. Weatherspoon preaches in our chapel.”
