International Student Admission Process

The following outlines the international student admission process
In addition to the admissions requirements for Masters and Doctoral applicants, prospective international students must forward the following items to the Admissions Office on or before the appropriate deadline to be considered for admission:

  • Step One: Application

    Completed application for admission including all requested written essays. The application may be completed online or via mail.


  • Step Two: Application Fee

    This fee may be paid online or you may mail a check made out to United Theological Seminary to the Admissions Office, United Theological Seminary, and 4501 Denlinger Rd., Dayton, Ohio 45426. You may also pay by phone with a credit card by calling our Business Office at 937.529.2201.


  • Step Three: English Proficiency

    Information on taking the TOEFL test is available on their website or you may write to Educational Testing Service, PO Box 6151, Princeton, NJ 08541.

    Masters degree seeking applicants:
    Students are required to show evidence of English proficiency. United requires a recent TOEFL score of 550 for paper-based tests, 213 for computer-based tests or 79 for internet-based tests.     Doctoral degree seeking applicants:
    Students are required to show evidence of English proficiency. United requires a recent TOEFL score of 570 for paper-based tests, 230 for computer-based tests or 88 for internet-based tests.   • Step Four: Citizenship

    Evidence of nationality and citizenship. A photocopy of the passport is acceptable.


  • Step Five: Financial Resources

    Evidence of adequate financial resources for school and living expenses including copies of bank statements and signed support letters from sponsoring organizations and individuals.

  • Step Six: Health Insurance (J-1 Visa only)

    Evidence of health insurance coverage for the entire duration of student’s career.


Transcript
Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended are required. United requires transcript evaluations through World Education Services (WES) for degrees conferred at institutions outside of the U.S. that are not recognized by a U.S. accrediting institution.

Visit wes.org or click here to apply for your transcript evaluation. Order the WES Course-by-Course Analysis with one additional copy of the completed evaluation to be sent directly to United. You are required to send official transcripts to WES but are not required to send additional copies to United Theological Seminary.

For degrees earned in the United States, official transcripts must be sent directly to United Theological Seminary by postal mail from the degree granting institution. Faxed copies are not accepted at any time. Mail transcripts to:

Recommendations
Professional and personal recommendations may be submitted online or sent by postal mail to United. Mail recommendations to:

Application Deadline
All international students must submit full applications, including all supporting documents, no later than January 15 prior to the fall semester. New international students are admitted only in the fall semester.
