Zeiders and Martin Honored by Alumni/ae Association
At its annual Alumni/ae Banquet on May 10, 2011, United’s Alumni/ae Association honored Rev. Dr. G. Edwin Zeiders ’73 as Distinguished Alumnus and Rev. Dr. David F. Martin ’72 as Effective Minister. Both honored alumni were joined by family and friends as they were recognized for their incredible work over the past 40 years. Rev. Dr. Zeiders has served congregations in Ohio and Central Pennsylvania, has served as District Superintendent and Council Director. He also served as United’s president from 2000-2008. He now serves as pastor of St. Paul UMC in State College, PA.
Rev. Dr. Martin retired in June after 41 years of service, 16 of which have been at Rocky River (OH) UMC. Martin has take Rocky River to new heights in mission and ministry and has touched countless lives and allowed the congregation to pursue and expand its mission of being a “Beacon on the North Coast.”
Four members of the class of ’71 were inducted into the Eckels Society. They include Rev. David Howell, Rev. Thomas Jacobs, Rev. David Wilson, and Rev. Galen Black. The Eckels Society identifies and honors United Theological Seminary graduates of 40 or more years who have given dedicated service to Christ. The Society is named for the Rev. Dr. Harry L. Eckels who earned a diploma and five degrees from United over the years from 1941 to 1989.
A special Honorary Alumna Award was presented to Mrs. Joan Zeiders for her outstanding volunteer work for United between 2000-2008 while accompanying Rev. Dr. Zeiders during his tenure as United's president.
