Budget Director

Summary
Performs complex and highly responsible job duties in the preparation, maintenance, and control of the institutions operating and capital budgets. Designs and implements budget enhancements. Analyzes and prepares accurate financial data and prepares reports for the V.P. for Finance to be reported to the Board of Trustees, institutional leadership and Seminary Budget Directors. Work is performed under limited supervision with broad latitude for initiative and independent judgment and performance evaluation is based on the effective operation of the administrative function.
This position functions as Budget Manager for the V.P. for Finance and as primary month end closing coordinator.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Serves as Budget Director for the V.P. for Finance Office, including
-
Responsible for the design, maintenance and enhancement for the Black Baud budget module.
-
Responsible for the preparation, maintenance and control of the Seminary’s annual operating budget based on institutional guidelines and manpower requirements.
-
Responsible for the budgetary approval and processing of financial documents in the budget and general ledger systems.
-
Ensures compliance with the applicable United policies, state and federal guidelines and laws.
-
Analyzes and prepares accurate financial data for the Seminary administration and departments.
-
Assists administrative and academic departments with establishing and maintaining operating budgets.
-
Formulates procedures and operating policies within area of responsibility.
-
Responsible for the accurate preparation and analysis of financial data for various accrediting agencies including ATS.
-
Performs Payroll 941 quarterly reconciliation to General ledger.
-
-
Coordination between related budget director’s offices and support staff, preparation for monthly budget review meetings and presentations, including associated materials, details and deadlines.
-
Provides support to the V.P. for Finance in relationship to the following business office matters: year-end work papers and related analysis, quarterly BOT commentary preparation and analysis.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree required, and at least three to five years of professional budgeting experience in a medium sized office setting required. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred. Training and/or demonstrated competence with MS Office and/or other common software applications. Experience in higher education preferred. Good oral and written communication skills, congenial personality with professional demeanor. Flexibility, multitasking and ability to work under time pressure a must.

Works collaboratively as part of a departmental team with staff members, especially in the President’s and Advancement areas of the school.

Some official travel and driving with or on behalf of the president is expected.
