Teaching and Research
Andy’s teaching and research interests include the history of Christianity in America, Wesleyan-Methodist Studies, the history of the clergy, and the history of revival, reform and renewal. His dissertation is a comparative study of doctrine, politics, and connectionalism in late nineteenth century Methodism in the American South and the early history of the Church of the Nazarene.
He previously taught World history and American religious history at Auburn University.

Professional
Andy has served as a pastor in Tennessee, Ohio, and Georgia and is an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene.
Andy also serves as Coordinator of Pan-Methodist Student Recruitment at United. In this role he has the opportunity to meet believers from a variety of Wesleyan-Methodist denominations, which feeds his passion for “intra-Methodist ecumenism.”

Andy has written several popular articles on Nazarene history and a chapter entitled “American Methodism and War” for the Cambridge Companion to American Methodism (forthcoming, 2013).
Personal Life
He enjoys college football when he is not trying to convince students that “Church history is good for the soul.”
